BQB Certification for Bluetooth Devices

What is BQB Certification?

BQB stands for Bluetooth Qualification Body.

Only products that pass certification by the Bluetooth SIG (Special Interest Group) are recognized as genuine Bluetooth products. Certification ensures product compatibility and performance meet Bluetooth standards and grants legal rights to use the Bluetooth logo and technical specifications. Unauthorized use of Bluetooth branding without qualification can result in fines.

When is BQB certification required?

Any product featuring Bluetooth functionality must obtain Bluetooth BQB certification; otherwise, the Bluetooth SIG will consider the product an infringement. BQB certification is one of the core qualification requirements for Bluetooth products and is managed directly by the SIG.

BQB Certification Fees

BQB qualification costs consist of two main components: DID (Declaration ID) fees and testing fees.

  • The DID fee varies depending on the membership tier:
    • For small businesses with annual revenue under 1,000,000USD,therearetwoopportunitieswithinan18−monthperiodtopurchaseaDIDatadiscountedrateof1,000,000 USD, there are two opportunities within an 18-month period to purchase a DID at a discounted rate of 2,500 USD/DID (must be used within those 18 months; standard pricing applies thereafter).
    • For SIG Adopter Members (free membership): $8,000 USD/DID, unlimited purchases.
    • For SIG Associate Members:
      • Companies with annual revenue under 100MUSD:Annualmembershipfeeof100M USD: Annual membership fee of 7,500 USD/year; $4,000 USD/DID, unlimited purchases.
      • Companies with annual revenue over 100MUSD:Annualmembershipfeeof100M USD: Annual membership fee of 35,000 USD/year; $4,000 USD/DID, unlimited purchases.
  • Testing fees are determined by the specific accredited test facility or laboratory.

  • For an Adopter (free) member, certifying a Bluetooth product costs approximately $8,000 USD for the DID fee plus around ¥22,000 RMB in laboratory testing fees, totaling nearly ¥80,000 RMB.

Scope of Bluetooth BQB Certification

  • Radio Frequency (RF) Conformance Testing;
  • Protocol Conformance Testing;
  • Profile Interoperability Testing;
  • Declaration of Conformity (DoC);
  • Technical Documentation Review.

Searching Bluetooth BQB Listings

Once a Bluetooth product passes BQB certification testing, the SIG assigns it a unique QDID (Qualified Design ID), which can be verified using the official Bluetooth listing search tool.

Search URL: Launch Studio - Listing Search (bluetooth.com);

For example, querying the DID associated with Realtek’s RTL88XX series Bluetooth chips returns the following result:
